Detaching, reattaching, creating new sessions, listing sessions work acceptably for using with shells. Simple curses programs (top, systat, tetris) and more complicated ones (mutt, emacs) that don't require scrolling regions (ESC[r) mostly work fine (including mutt, emacs).
